She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. And as is common for a gifted, charming and young artist dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she had yet to attain. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence in the Latino community which can be thought of as similar to the responses to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. A hugely popular Latino musician in North America, Selena's music has influenced many people across cultures. Selena is an edgy and sexy performer. She's often referred to in the media as Latina Madonna. She's also considered a role model to be reckoned with because off stage Selena has an amiable and family-focused attitude. She also actively participates in anti-drug programs.
